A general review of recent development and application of the technology of remote-sensing in monitoring soil moisture was done with emphasis on introducing the relatively mature and extensively used feature space method and microwave remote-sensing method based on visible light and thermal infrared bands.It also analyzed advantages and disadvantages of various remote-sensing methods in monitoring soil moisture,pointed out shortages with the remote-sensing methods,predicted directions of future development and foretold prospects of the technology of using remote-sensing to monitor soil moisture monitoring.
