Abstract:With the consolidation and development of the people's commune in our country, the agricultural production is more and more increasing on a large scale. For the further development of agriculture, there is a great need of detailed soil maps with which the commune members can know the soil conditions of their commune more clearly and make the farm plan more perfectly. In the present paper, based on 10 soil mapping points represented different soil conditions of the communes in various parts of this country, an attempt is made to deal with the following problems.

Abstract:So far as the natural soil and cultivated soil formed under conditions of shallow plowing are concerned, we can distinguish their profile horizons morphologically to a certain extent. But in case the soil is subject to a proper deep plowing, its surface soil, sub-soil and sometimes substratum are generally overturned and mixed up, and there will be little possibility for one to distinguish morphologically the profile horizons. This induces us to think whether it would be possible to distinguish the horizons chiefly on the basis of dynamic variations of soil fertility. We are convinced to believe that the influences of bioclimate to the upper and lower layers axe certainly diverse, and the transformation progression and rate of nutrient materials in these layers are also widely different, and hence these various layers have their different specific functions for plant growth. Owing to these, the dynamic variations of fertility may be considered to be the prime criterion for the horizon division of the cultivated soils.

Abstract:In order to study the effect of the methods of application of phosphatic fertilizer on the yield of crops in dry land crop-rice rotation, pot and field experiments on various soils of different pH value and phosphorus composition were conducted. Results obtained showed that the response in yield of wheat or soybean to superphosphate was much more prominent than that of rice in the acid and neutral paddy soils containing large amount of non-occluded iron phosphates. Furthermore, there was good residual effect of superphosphate on rice when the superphosphate was applied to its proceeding crops(wheat or soybean).Additional application of superphosphate to rice in the soybean-rice rotation gave no increase in its yield, whereas the supplementary supply of phosphatic fertilizer to soybean in the rotation of rice-autumn soybean gave marked increase in yield of this subsequent crop.

Abstract:The composition of the humus of paddy soils developed under four different bioclimatic zones was studied. It is compared with the humus composition of corresponding soils under dry farming or/and under natural vegetation. Results obtained showed that both the humic acid/fulvic acid ratio and the degree of humification of humic acid decrease regularly in the following order: brown earth zone-yellow brown earth zone-red soil zone and lateritic soil zone. In the same bio-climatic zone, the humus of paddy soils is characterized with a higher humic acid/fulvic acid ratio and a lower degree of humification as compared with other soils. It was suggested that the water-logged condition of paddy soils favours the accumulation of humic acid but retards it form further condensation.

Abstract:Three types of free-living aerobic nitrogen-fixing bacteria, namely, Azotobacter chroococcum, an yellow variety of Az. chroococcum and Beijerizzckia indica, were found in seven different agricultural soils of Hupeh Province. Az. chroococcum was the most widely distributed type. B. indica was found chiefly in the acid red-yellow soil. The yellow variety of Az. chroococcum was found only in the paddy soil developed from the acid red-yellow soil
