This paper is an introduction to the Principles and Criteria for Establishment of Soil Family and Soil Series in Chinese Soil Taxonomy. The background, principles, and characteristics of the criteria followed by the criteria itself are described in details. Then an example is given to demonstrate the application of the criteria on specific soils.
